Effectiveness of biogas

effective  successful efficient useful helpful valuable

Biogas can be a useful aternative energy source, it can solve the household waste problem.  For example potato peels, cooking oil and other food garbage can be used to produce this energy (SOURCE).

Also biogas can be effective due to it being a sustainable form of energy, which is processed to create heat, electricity for houses and fuel for vehicles.  Kristianstad has reduced half of fossil fuels by using biogas for the whole city (SOURCE).

However biogas might be ineffective as it costs much more money compared to geothermal power.  For instance the price of constructing a geothermal plant is around $10 million (SOURCE) in contrast to the expense of biogas which is about ten times the price, $144 million in Kristianstad (SOURCE)
The initial cost of making biogas is too high, so it may only be an option for richer countries.

In addition it is necessary to build a lot of pipes to sufficiently transport biogas (SOURCE).  This means that is may not be suitable for rural areas.
